FAQs
Can I apply for the Data Science program even if I do not have a degree in mathematics or computer science but in the subject xyz?
If you have a degree other than mathematics or computer science, you can be admitted to the program under certain conditions. The admission committee of the study program will determine the admission and the extent of the conditions on the basis of your documents (transcript of records of your previous studies, possible work references or certificates acquired outside the university, etc.). Degrees such as Business Information Systems are always subject to a case-by-case review. You should also bring these documents with you to a possible counseling interview in advance.
I do not have a bachelor's degree in mathematics. What knowledge of mathematics do I need to be able to study the program successfully?
The more knowledge you have, the better. The prerequisite is a secure command of mathematics from the lectures that computer science students take in the bachelor's program at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. More detailed information about the contents and references can be found in the corresponding module descriptions on the page of the Department of Computer Science: Fundamentals of Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra and Probability and Fundamentals of Calculus.
I do not have a bachelor's degree in computer science. What computer science knowledge do I need to successfully study the program?
The prerequisite is knowledge in programming and modeling, as acquired by mathematics students in the bachelor's program at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. The corresponding contents including literature references can be found in the module descriptions of the modules Programming I, Programming II and Programming III in the module handbook of the Department of Mathematics.
I still have some time until the start of the study program. How can I prepare for the program in a meaningful way?
If you want to prepare yourself beyond the admission requirements, we recommend for the mathematics part of the program especially the study of statistics. For the computer science part, we recommend gaining as much programming experience as possible, ideally in an object-oriented language.
How do I find potential partner companies for the dual version?
Since the degree program is very young, there are not yet many companies that are specifically available as dual partners for Data Science. However, all partner companies of the Department of Computer Science can also be used. You can find a list under List of partner companies of the Department of Computer Science.
Where can I find the BBPO?
The Special Regulations for the Examination Regulations for the Master's program in Data Science can be found here.
