Dats & Stats

Following Darmstadt, Cartagena, and Dublin, the fourth workshop for data scientists from EUt+ universities took place in Cassino, Italy.

On May 7–8, 2026, over 40 researchers, practitioners, and doctoral students from across Europe gathered at the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS) for the fourth annual DATS & STATS Workshop. Organized by UNICAS and hosted on its campus in Cassino, Italy, the event brought together members of the European University of Technology (EUt+) network, including TU Dublin (Ireland), Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da, Germany), Riga Technical University (Latvia), University of Technology of Troyes (UTT, France), and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania). It also included external participants from Columbia University (USA) and Rutgers University (USA), further enriching the scientific exchange.

The two-day workshop served as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, featuring a keynote presentation, discussions, and networking opportunities. It continued the tradition of strengthening collaboration within the EUt+ Data and Stat Group, building on previous editions in Darmstadt (2023), Cartagena (2024), and Dublin (2025).

The workshop focused on on a variety of statistical and data science topics:

  • Advances in statistical theory, inference, uncertainty quantification, and computational statistics
  • Innovative approaches to analyzing high-dimensional, complex, and structured data
  • Real-world applications in health, environmental science, finance, social sciences, engineering, and network analysis
  • The synergy between classical statistics and modern machine learning — with a focus on interpretability, robustness, and trustworthy AI
  • Reproducible, transparent, and ethically grounded data science practices

A highlight of the event was an invited talk given by Prof. Javier Cabrera, a prominent data scientist from Rutgers University (USA), who talked about the relationship between AI and statistical methodology. The workshop also featured many contributions from early-career researchers and concrete plans for future collaboration.

All accepted contributions will be included in the EUt+ Workshop Proceedings, published via the EUt+ Academic Press in the Conference Proceedings series. The next meeting  is scheduled to take place in May 2027.
